Easter Message

Dear everyone,

Recently  someone in a senior managerial post asked me how I thought people were reacting to the present economic climate, and the great reductions of jobs taking place, especially in public services. ‘They feel numb and uncertain’ I replied

This message is being prepared at the beginning of Holy Week as the story of Good Friday and Easter Day begins to unfold. It is a week of tension, betrayal, trial, and crucifixion. This situation also created a sense of numbness and uncertainty amongst the disciples of Jesus.

Good Friday with its horror of crucifixion, created a sense of shock in itself. We cannot overlook the fact that there was also a tremendous sense of numbness and loss amongst the first followers of Jesus caused by his death on the cross.

Easter Day however brings transformation. The women at the tomb at first are bewildered at what has happened. An angel, seated at the entrance to the tomb says to them    ‘do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here he is risen.‘ This gave the women great assurance and joy.

The story of the first Easter day is one of eternal significance which expresses Christ’s victory over sin and death.

My prayer for many  who are suffering a sense of numbness and loss at the present time is that they may discover  encouragement from the Easter message too.

May they find in Christ a message of hope that helps them through difficult days.

A Happy Easter and a time of blessing to all.
