June letter

Dear everyone,

We have just returned from our holidays, visiting Lake Garda and then a seven-day cruise in the Adriatic. It was the first time that we have ever been on such a holiday. We had good weather, good food, we travelled on the Costa Classica and there were no mishaps with the boat, and there was some fantastic scenery!

There were 26 in the group, and everyone seemed to gel well together.   We had many good conversations especially at mealtimes. Included in the party were a honeymoon couple, and a husband and wife who were celebrating 40 years of married life.

It is always fascinating to meet new people. You find many things in common, but you also discover many  differences.

Some you feel have special needs, and you would like to spend more time with them to talk through some of the issues that they are facing. Others, on a one-to-one basis share some quite personal details about their lives and the problems they have experienced. Holidays for some can be tremendously valuable  in this way. May be we are able to give them some word of encouragement on life’s journey.

When things have gone well on a trip you feel a sense of sadness when you finally say goodbye, because you know that in many cases you may never see these people again.

‘Lord, bless all those we meet for brief periods in our lives. May they too know ‘fullness of life’.  In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen
