I like trying to write poetry, although I’m not as thoroughly versed as I should be in reading the poetry of those who have deeply spoken to society through their inspired thoughts. However my hope is that readers will find them helpful. Many border on being simple prayers rather than poems.
Poem written in memory of Val Machell who has inspired many of us in the Soundswell Choir to enjoy our singing.
Val
Val. Valued.
Your inspiration, and determination-
never taking ‘no’ for an answer,
but drawing us into song where we can lose ourselves.
Thankfully we remember your love of music-
harmony with laughter.
Lifting us up on wings of Song like a lark.
A company of practitioners and learners bound together-
feeling safe amongst friends.
Music never ends,
but leads us to eternity.
We thank you Val, for inspiring us along the way.
DM.
Hope.
Be with us Lord throughout the day,
May we remember times to pray,
Help us uplift the sick in prayer,
And dwell on what is true and fair.
Lift up our spirits Lord today,
May we remember times to pray,
When thoughts of gloom and fear pervade,
May we not stay within their shade,
Instead may faith and love and hope,
Inspire us on, and lift us up.(27/01/2016)
Along life’s way.
‘Love’s cycle.’
Our eyes acknowledged the existence of each other
As we gazed across a crowded room.
Not a romantic place but a conference-
Helping exploited migrants
Settle here.
We had spoken to each other some weeks before,
she waited at a bus stop to get to church
I was cycling on my way to preach elsewhere.
We both said ‘good morning’, smilingly,
Nothing more.
I felt drawn to her – she was my dream.
Having found her ‘never let her go.’
I cycled to the school where she taught ,
The teenage girls at lunchtime were agog
To see this cleric, asking for Miss.E
I miss her deeply, but there’s still the love and purpose
we shared for over half a century.
I thankfully treasure the heavenly vision
that binds me to the one I love.
